Telegraph, Calcutta |

Hyderabad - The Andhra Pradesh government will
soon take services and digital instruments to people’s homes.
The state cabinet has approved a joint venture to set up a broadband network
that will provide high-speed connectivity even to villagers.
The network will provide 256 kbps internet connectivity through a wide
network of optical fibre cables, which will be installed by a consortium of
companies led by Gurgoan-based Aksh Broadband.
The Railtel network (India), Tata Indicom, VSNL, Incablenetwork (Andhra
Pradesh), Spectranet and Nuziveeduseeds are partners in the venture along
with the state government.
Information minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir said the Rs 400-crore project will
be funded by the partners and financial institutions.
State IT secretary Ajay Sawhney said, “The project is slated to be completed
in 21 months. We will begin operations in the first phase from April 2005
when connectivity will be given up to district level.” In the first phase,
one village in each district will be covered, besides the district
headquarters, in six months.
