In a move guaranteed to incense those involved,
Sheffield-based ISP PlusNet has moved around 240 of its heaviest broadband
users onto a new platform after warning them that they were using the
service too much.
Those who've been transferred onto the 'heavy-user pipe' say their broadband
service has deteriorated markedly since the move.
PlusNet - which boasts some 80,000 broadband customer - insists it was
forced to take action after this small minority of users abused the service
and ate up huge amounts of bandwidth.
According to industry figures, the average usage per subscriber is 7Gb per
month. Some of those targeted in PlusNet's clampdown are soaking up a
whopping 500 - 600Gb per month, a spokesman told The Register.
"We are protecting the network for a vast majority of our users," he said.
An email from the company was recently sent to the users warning of the
change.
