Scottish Village Chosen To Trial Rural Broadband

East Lothian Courier
Because of its location in the Lammermuir Hills, Stenton has been selected to test how well broadband can be delivered to isolated rural communities.

More than 60 people have agreed to use the service whenever it becomes available.

East Lothian Council is behind the move to connect areas of East Lothian unable to access the service in the usual way. A combination of satellite and wireless technology will be used instead.

Economic development manager, Brian Simpson said: “We looked for an area where the number of potential subscribers were spread across difficult terrain and included a high proportion of business users.

“The Stenton area fitted the profile and poses a significant challenge that will provide a thorough test for the technology.”
