Broadband Over Powerlines
The Australian Communications Authority has put up online information on Broadband over Powerline technology which it is currently testing.

The Australian Communications Authority (ACA) site now houses an information portal giving background information about the new technology and details of interim trials.

The idea is that power companies which are interested in the technology and are considering using it to provide broadband data access to consumers as well as to manage the electrical supply network, can read about the technological trials.

The ACA wants to set regulatory arrangements that do not unnecessarily inhibit the adoption of Broadband over Power Line technology but at the same time protect radiocommunications services from harmful interference. One of the downsides of broadband over powerlines is that it can create interference over the radio spectrum.

A discussion paper will be released in early April calling for public comment.
