What Do I Need to Get Online?
What do I need to get online?
| The majority of UK users will require a
BT telephone line. Those who
do not, may connect to the broadband service either via a
cable network or an independent
network provider such as Kingston or Bulldog. |
| Your
BT telephone line must also
be within 3.5Km to 6Km of an ADSL enabled exchange, depending on line loss and
interference. Please note that the distance is measured in terms of the
length of line and not as the crow flies. |
| Your telephone line must also pass a number of
quality tests to ensure you can receive broadband. The tests are for various things such as quality of signal, signal strength, interference and loss
(degradation) of signal. |
| You will also need an
ADSL modem or router, a special
type of modem specifically for connection to the broadband network. |
If you are using your telephone line to connect to broadband, you will also
require micro-filters. |
