| Midband |
| This is a term used by some service providers to
describe the much slower broadband service of 128kbps. |
|
| MP3 |
| MP3 is an audio file format, which uses compression
software to make the file size smaller without significant reduction in quality.
This is a common file format for sharing music files on the internet. |

| Network Card |
| A network card is a bit of hardware which allows
certain types of modem to be connected to your computer. Network cards are also
used to connect a number of computers together to form a local network. |
|
| Plug-In |
| Special software that plugs-in to your internet
browser and allows you to view or listen to certain types of pages or documents
on the internet; for example, flash plug-in. |
|
| Streaming |
| Streaming is a means of downloading large files
such as audio and video. A percentage of the file is downloaded and buffered
(stored) before playback can begin. Streaming allows users to begin playback
whilst the remaining file is downloading in the background. |

| Upload |
| Upload describes the process of transferring files
from your computer to another location (computer) on the internet. |
|
| Upstream |
| Upstream describes the process of transferring
of data (up) from your computer to another computer over the broadband internet
network. Upstream speed is 256Kbps, regardless of downstream speeds. |
