Broadband Myth Busting!
Broadband Myth:
| "Your computer is always connected
to the internet" |
| Fact: Not true.
This particular broadband myth causes a lot of concern among security-conscious
dial-up users who like to be able to disconnect from the internet whenever they
wish.
| You can log-off the broadband network just
as easily as you log-off the dial-up network. The process is identical
with both broadband and dial-up. |
| Your modem or router is always physically
connected to the telephone line, or via a cable broadband provider; much in
the same way a dial-up modem is always physically connected to
the phone line. |
| With broadband, you can of course, leave your computer
connected to the broadband network so that you are only ever one click away
from the internet. There is no time limit on how long you can connect for.
This means you can keep your internet connection in the background while
you do other things; for example, photo editing while listening to broadband
radio.
| This is why you are 'always on'.
The choice is yours: keep an internet connection while you are using your
computer (always on), or connect only when you wish to use the internet.

Broadband Myth:
| "You must leave your computer
on all the time" |
| Fact: Completely untrue! |
| You can turn your computer off whenever you like! |
