Cable Broadband

What is Cable Broadband?

Cable internet broadband is an additional service offered by cable television companies allowing you to access the internet via their cable network.
The cable network is typically available only in high population density urban areas. A spin-off from providing television, cable broadband is available to around 40% of the UK population.
As it does not use the phone system, but instead uses fibre optics, cable broadband is potentially much faster than ADSL and can offer blisteringly fast downstream speeds. Currently, cable companies are offering 1Mb to 8Mb services, but this will most likely increase as the broadband market increases and suppliers compete ever more fiercely for customers.

Advantages of Cable Broadband

> Available in most major towns and cities

> Can offer much faster downstream speeds than ADSL

> Cheap package deals available for television, cable broadband and phone

> Flat-rate monthly fee, no matter how long you are online

> No need for ADSL enabled exchange

> Phone line not required
