What is Fixed
Wireless Broadband?
|
| Fixed wireless allows groups
of people who are unable to get ADSL or Cable broadband in their area to implement
broadband on a limited scale for their area. |
|
| A fixed wireless system works
a bit like a home wireless connection. Users subscribe to a 'fixed line' service
which requires a dish antenna, similar to a
satellite dish, mounted on
their home or business. |
|
| This is then pointed at the
fixed location of the broadcasting antenna which broadcasts the internet connection
directly to the subscribers dish-antenna. In order for the fixed wireless system
to work, there must be a clear line of sight between the subscriber's dish-antenna
and the broadcasting antenna. |
|
| Like satellite broadband, Fixed
Wireless broadband is not for everyone. Fixed Wireless is also not available
in all areas although it may prove the perfect option for those communities
which cannot receive ADSL or
Cable broadband. |
